Getting The Phone Ready

424-946-8057 · so calls are answered before we spend on adverts

The four things only you can do, in order

1
Gordon or Fallon · 10 minutes, together on a screen
Sign in to Google Voice and tell us two things
Whether it is a personal Google Voice number or a Workspace one, and whose Google account actually owns it. That name has to match the name that signs the transfer form, or the whole thing bounces back and we start again.
2
Gordon or Fallon · 5 minutes
Set a voicemail PIN, and save a copy of the call history
The voicemail PIN doubles as the transfer PIN, so it is needed either way. Old texts and voicemails do not come across and become unreachable afterwards, so we export them first. Nothing is lost if we do it now.
3
Gordon · 10 minutes · $3
Unlock the number in Google Voice
Settings, then Account, then Unlock. Three dollars, or free if the number was moved in from somewhere else originally. Nothing can be submitted until this is done, and unlocking on its own changes nothing about how the phone works today.
4
Gordon · one email
Send us the IRS letter with DTAG’s exact legal name
The CP-575 or a 147C. This is for registering business texting, which is a separate clock running alongside. Automatic texts get silently blocked by the phone carriers without it, so a missed-call text back would look like it worked and reach nobody.
One thing that cannot be rushed, said plainly. Once the transfer is submitted, the old carrier sets the switchover date and it is out of everyone’s hands. Published times are about seven working days if it is treated as straightforward, and fifteen or more if it is not. We do not get to pick, and changing the date after it is set is what usually breaks a transfer. So the honest range from the day you start is two to five weeks.

Already done on our side

The missed-call catcher is live.Deployed and health-checked today. It is the piece that turns a missed call into something we can see and ring back.
The receiving system is live.Running and reporting healthy.
Your rules are already locked in.People answer first for about four rings; the assistant only picks up when nobody does or it is out of hours.
The whole call flow gets built and tested on a spare numberwhile the transfer is in progress, for about a dollar a month. That means switchover day is pointing a number at something finished, not starting a build.

What happens on switchover day

Nothing changes for people calling you.Same number, it just rings through a different system.
One change for your team.Calling out and showing the 424 number needs an app on the phone rather than the Google Voice one.
The Google Voice app stops carrying the number.Which is why we export the history first, in step 2.

If you start today

24 to 26 August
if the transfer is treated as straightforward. This is the good case, not the promise.
3 to 16 September
if it is treated as complicated, or one form comes back for a correction. Plan on this one.
Every day this waits moves both dates by a day. Nothing about the waiting part can be sped up with money or effort.

What it costs

$3to unlock the number
About $1 a monthfor the spare number we build and test on
Around $15 per reviewfor the business texting registration, if it comes back for a correction
Transfer feenot published anywhere we can find. We will tell you the number before anything is submitted, not after.
